Last night I made my first baby-related purchase. Even though I am in my second trimester I still can’t bring myself to buy baby clothes or nursery items or pretty much anything baby. Many times I will have an item in my hand and put it back because I just can’t follow through – the fear of the unknown. I don’t know if the big ultrasound June will send me into a shopping frenzy or if this phobia will remain for the duration of the pregnancy (I certainly hope not) but I am making very small steps – baby steps. Books seem like a safe purchase. And what better books than Shel Silverstein poetry? I can’t wait to read these aloud to our little one.
Somebody Has To
Somebody has to go polish the stars,
They’re looking a little bit dull.
Somebody has to go polish the stars,
For the eagles and starlings and gulls
Have all been complaining they’re tarnished and worn,
They say they want new ones we cannot afford.
So please get your rags
And your polishing jars,
Somebody has to go polish the stars.
- Shel Silverstein

You just can’t go wrong with Suess!!!
I have two, almost three kids, a master in library science, and I still don’t have either of these.
I do wish that it was that simple to just have a couple of books…oh do wait until your house has been invaded by the baby monster….all the junk you don’t think you need
Totally understand wanting to wait. Do what you feel comfortable with. Been through that myself especially after my first pregnancy. Are you guys going to find out what you are having?
I remember your cousin Matt just loved those books in 3rd grade. I think you may find Eric Carle aslo interesting to the younger set if looking for baby or preschool stuff. Aunt Donna
I think I need to back to third grade and spell the word also
Thanks! It did come quickly, and unfortunately it passed quickly also.
On a sidenote, I kept my copies of Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic in the hopes of reading them to little ones one day, too.
